I never realized that the rhythm section in "9 to 5" starts with a typewriter. Either I wasn't paying attention at age 8 or I have better headphones now.

Had a breakout session with Nic, Eddie, snowman, droid bodyguard, and Aayla. The task: to determine my current awesome level. The results: somewhere between "pretty" and "totally".

Mumsy, Nanny, Sonny and Girly

Girly (aka Mumsy, Nanny, Sonny and Girly) (1969)

The beauty of netflix is that sometimes you just find good stuff.  Girly was listed and I almost didn't watched because the one sheet looked like some gross out slasher.  But it was british from the late 60's so figured it was safe.  The violence is off screen.  Taken at is face value it's more f'ed up psychological tennessee williams vibe.  Behind the themes are more along with roles in British society.  It reminded me alot of The Prisoner...which is good thing.

Labyrinth soundtrack

I'm sucker for the amazon $5 dollar downloads.  They have Labyrinth soundtrack this month.

Labyrinth  I really did not like early 80's bowie but did like this soundtrack and the movie.  I only started listening to 70s bowie and finding out how good it is.

I've been listening to Spoon a lot today.  Specifically underdog.  Kind of a 70's billy joel vibe.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Spoilerish.  I broke down and bought and read it.  I think the tipping point was the day it was on the cover of Entertainment weekly and the movie version was streaming on Netflix.  I kind of wanted to see the movie but knowing there was a book felt compelled to read it frist.

So after reading it...I have no idea how it got popular.  To clarify...I liked it.  I'm just surprised that such a slow passed split personality style book is a worldwide phenom.  I don't ever want to read Twilight...but I can at least understand the appeal of it.  I don't understand the appeal of bad writting but if it's vampires I guess.

I ended up pretending this was a sci-fi book because otherwise I would drown in all of the names, currency, political, and geographicaly stuff I had no reference too.  The girl is only in 10% of th first 300 pages and in that something bad happens to her...and then something really really bad happens to her.  She is a compelling character and her attempts to connect and become more human is really interesting.

So after I read it I immediatly watched the movie version.  It was eh.  I guess I should have waiting a while.  As I was reading the book pretty much could tell what was going to be included.  It mainly focuses on the 40 year old mystery.  However I think left a lot of Salander's attempts for for normal human existance out.  This is a woman how has to remind herself that actions have consequences.  It's as if her original guardian had to install Terminator logic inter her so she could better deal with others.  And as long as I'm nit picking mikael should never have made a big deal about her being hacker.  One of their important moments in the book was the fact that he didn't use the power over her and in dropped it altogether.

Subway cheese steak

I ate this in Ted's Name.  I hope the offering works.

Secret of Monkey Island

The classic version on the opening song.  I played the special edition again on steam.   The SE of LeChuck's revenge is out now.  It's also on Itunes but will probably do the steam.  I have the orignal cd but it's worth the money to not have to mess around getting it work.

Inception

Spoilers.  A great movie.  The 40 minute climax was great.  Loved how always went back to the different levels to point back a reference.   Surprising I'm not really if he was at a dream level.  I spent a lot of time dwelling on the end of the second Matrix movie (I enjoyed both sequels) and what it ment.  With this it's like I know it was setup to have many layers, so I'm happy with taking it for what is there.

Diamonds are forever

Watched this yesterday.  I can't help watching Bond movies when they are on tv, even the shitty ones.  And this one is shit.  The best part  is the chase down Fremont street.  Really interesting to see the old Las Vegas.

I'm partial to the Moore films over Connery.  Connery Bond is kind of a tool.

Side note...yesterday is a weird looking word.

Very interesting experience.  Interactive Fiction.  Style is of the old Infocom games but it's not a point system puzzle game.  It jumps around several spots that start to connect as you go along.  There is a java version to play in browser.

Also in comments linked to article about the game Pathologic...which is well...sounds like creepy depressing game but very interesting read.

On Stranger Tides - Tim Powers

I finished On Stranger Tides last week.  It was enjoyable.  Put it on the read list when I saw that it inspired 'The Secret of Money Island" and was going to be the basis for the new Pirates of the Caribbean.  I have a soft spot for pirates and magic.
